Headings contain crucial information for the current and future reader, as well as data for the proper filing and archiving of your work, and proper billing. In a busy law practice, you must be able to retrieve documents quickly. Maintaining a good database of all your work lets you refer back to previous research or opinions. Each memo must have sufficient identifying information, which may vary from firm to firm. Remember to include page numbers – your reader will appreciate the easy reference when discussing your memo with you. See "Memo Heading" in Crafting the Memo's Parts for an overview on writing complete headings.
